I knew it was there but never have been there but I was grateful that I finally went. Yeay, this is a good deal movie theater! There are typically 4 movies to show.
Awesome It was a good experience. The cost was not high. The theaters were the right size for the crowd. I do not eat since they stopped intermissions so I cannot comment on the food but folks seemed happy.
Last time I was here was in the 90s, it's changed so much now. That's what I'm saying moddafakas! My fave new theater back when I'm in ChiTown, get down clown! I loved the excellent customer service and great prices. The employees were extremely nice and super helpful getting my family of six quickly situated with tickets, popcorn, and drinks.
I will definitely be coming back! I saw a 9 pm showing last night and the woman at the desk was kind enough to tell me that large drinks and popcorns come with a free refill. I knew this as I always get it for that reason , but appreciated her letting me know that I could get it after the movie. After the movie, everyone who worked there was cleaning and I didn't want to bug them about refills when they were trying to close.
My friend and I decided we would come back the next day with our tickets and empty containers for the refill. My friend went and was refused even after explaining the situation. I used to love the , but this pisses me off. We wouldn't have bought it if we knew we couldn't. Won't be buying concessions again and am spreading the word.
Well I don't see what s the point of having a gift card for the movies and the theatre won't accept an amc gift card. A movie gift card is a movie gift card. The theatre needs an upgrade. I guess I'll have to go to another theatre next time. Yet the popcorn is so good. I love the fact that I can just go across the street, watch a movie , then walk straight home. New manager with dark hair and glasses is a complete Jerk. I'm a neighbor and live alone. Come here pretty regularly.
Last week I came in and he said they don't have a drink special. This week of course different person. I mentioned this and he completely dissed me. He is so rude. Get rid of him. Not into customer service. After seven years they have gone through changes. Bring back people who are good with customer service. He should not be here.
Takes the fun out of a fun day. Or do not come here in Monday's. This gem of a theater has everything: The personal attention and concern for patrons is a significant part of the enjoyment of the movie theater experience. This truly is an RP classic, and I for one hope it keeps on chugging along like the well-oiled machine that it is, giving every patron the best theater-going experience they deserve.
Bravo, New Theater. Very nice to have a movie theater around the corner from home. Theater - imagine just the front 9 rows of a regular theater the not sloped kind that's all you get. My screen had a stain on the side. Video and sound quality is good. Selection - depends but you only get 4 choices and sometimes that means nothing worth seeing. Food - haven't tried. Was able to bring water bottle with.
Love the theater, location and price just wish the selection was better at times but overall good local place. Went to this theater to see Black Panther for the second time. I love that this theater is cheap and sells alcohol.
The building is older and doesnt have recline or reserved seating but it brings back the nostalgia of how movie theaters were before when I was a kid. I'm happy I found this gem! As a poor college student this place is a dream. The theaters aren't anything fancy and the bathrooms are small, but you get what you pay for. All the staff is friendly and they have a range in showtimes, which I appreciate.
I recommend this theater to everyone! The New Cinema in Roger's Park is a delightfully cheap experience. The theater reminds me of the rag tag theaters I'd attend as a kid when I lived in small midwest towns.
The theaters look like large basements. The only movies it shows are sure bets. You won't find any indie or foreign films here. Despite the absence of luxury, I've found every visit to the The New to be charming.
The theater's usually fill up, ensuring you're seeing a movie with a responsive and engaged audience and that's the best reason to go to the movies, isn't it? Sometimes the theaters are a bit packed which can be a bit annoying, but I'm happy to see the business booming! They have a bar and snacks, which is nice too. This place has my heart.
Whereas most movie theaters have a very franchised feel to them, this place just has an aura about it that feels like home. What it lacks in size and in newness it more than makes up for in heart.
They always have fun themed drinks and, depending on the movie, trivia. The New makes me feel so lucky to live in this area and has given me so many wonderful memories. I discovered this gem while an undergrad student at Loyola.
I recently re-discovered it after returning to RoPo after a 6 year hiatus exploring new neighborhoods! I loved the Davis in Lincoln Square for all the same reasons before they underwent a massive renovation.
You aren't going to get oversize seats that recline and have microwaves, refrigerators, make your butt rumble so hard the person next to you can hear your teeth rattling in your head, and air conditioners built into them. TL;DR -- Is it perfect? Great bang for your buck. Not the most glamorous of theaters, but for the prices, it's very well worth it. The seating is still stadium style but not as drastic in height as a typical theater. Definitely will come back for the discount Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
So if you set your expectations on that level you should be fine Nothing fancy here- small screens and pretty rundown, but super cheap. Good selection of movies. They are also always running some special for families or daily ticket specials. The New Theaters Claimed This business has been claimed by the owner or a representative.

If only there were more movie theaters like this on the Far North Side. It's a bona-fide second-run house the likes of which you don't usually find outside college towns. Or nostalgic Italian films. Time Out Chicago Kids January 13, If you can't do without popcorn , the New serves it old-fashioned, with real butter. It also offers a dozen popcorn toppings, including Cajun, ranch, jalapeno , caramel and apple cinnamon. And because it's a small theater, it's not hard to take in a second showing on a good day.
The first time I visited there, I saw Real Steel. I love that place alot. First run movies at great prices. Full stocked bar and concession with great prices. What more can you ask for? They should really get child booster seats like the other big theaters. After all they always play kid friendly movies , but my child has a hard time watching the movie.

But a cute theater to grab a movie. Eric Zigler October 2, If you're going to see the premiere of a movie that you've been looking forward to, this isn't your place — the quality of the theatre isn't all that great. However, for a typical movie , it's perfect. Katie Jones September 2, Beautiful theatre- first time at theatre- friendly staff.
